The timeline is planned so as to minimize the number of appointments and to make sure your smile is completed in time for your special social function (wedding, engagement, wedding anniversary, graduation, etc.). All other dental diseases are treated first including dental hygiene visit.
Patients are encouraged to bring with them photos of when they were younger or photos of their favorite smile from actors and actresses. Commonly Combined Treatments
Some smile makeovers only require porcelain veneers. Other Smile Makeovers will require a combination of Porcelain Veneers and Porcelain Crowns. Porcelain crowns are chosen when teeth are weak such as endodontically treated teeth or teeth will large old restorations (like large old crowns).
Sometimes teeth are missing in the smile zone. This then required either a porcelain bridge with an ovate pontic or an implant with a Porcelain crown. Multiple missing anterior teeth may require multiple implants or an implant supported denture to make the completed Smile Makeover. If too much gum tissue is showing or the gums are uneven when the individual smiles, then a “gum lift” is done with lasers to reduce the amount of gum showing. How long does it take?
Smile transformations can take anywhere from three weeks to several months depending on each individual situations. If the teeth, gums are healthy with a good bite then the time is about three to four weeks depending on your schedule, the lab’s schedule and Dr. Podilsky’s schedule.
If a gum lift is required then one should wait until the gums are healthy and healed. This could take about eight to ten weeks before the Smile Makeover is even started.
If implants are involved then the time line can be increased to six months to a year. This is to allow the implants to get integrated in the bone and to allow for maximum healing of the gums.
Can smokers undergo a Smile Makeover?
This is not an issue in general but does depend on the type of Cosmetic procedure planned. Smokers do have an increase in periodontal disease or gum disease.
Smoking can also limit teeth from becoming whitened. There is an increase failure rate of implants since it increases the risk of ossointegration to be successful.
How much does a Smile Makeover cost?
Costs can vary depending on the procedures involved and the time involved. Costs can therefore vary from $10,000 to $30,000. Costs are increased if implants, gum lifts or full mouth rehabilitation is required.
How old does a person need to be before they can have a Smile Makeover?
As a general rule a person should be over the age of 20 years. Age is also dependent on what type of procedure is required. Whitening can be done on older teens. Porcelain veneers are usually not done until after the age of 20 because they are irreversible. If Orthodontics is involved the individuals should start in their early teens (10 to 12 years of age) to take advantage of their growth spurts.
What is the procedure?
