Treatment for Gapped Teeth By Dr. Nathaniel Podilsky on October 22, 2015

A beautiful young woman’s smileIf you have a diastema - a wide space between your two front teeth - or widely spaced teeth, you may not like the look of your smile. Today, with cosmetic dentistry, we offer treatment for gapped teeth. You can have beautiful, bright teeth, minus any gaps or uneven spaces. To learn more about treatment for gapped teeth, contact our Edmonton practice today.

Porcelain Veneers

To correct wide spaces between teeth, as well as discoloration, chips, and misalignment, porcelain veneers offer an attractive and lasting treatment option. Placing veneers takes just two or three dental appointments, and you can avoid the need for braces, whitening, bonding, and crowns with this one treatment.

Veneers are custom designed by Dr. Podilsky, so their color and shape will be determined based on what will look best with your smile, skin tone, and facial features. You can also review beautiful smiles in our Smile Catalogue and select those that appeal most to you.

During the porcelain veneers treatment process, Dr. Podilsky will prepare your teeth for the veneers. Then, we will take an impression of your teeth; the lab will use this impression during the veneer fabrication process. While you are in our office we will also create a wax model to show you what your new smile will look like. Finally, we’ll place temporary veneers that you will wear while the final, permanent restorations are being made by a ceramist. When the veneers are ready, you will return to office so they can be placed. You’ll also receive a complimentary night guard to keep your smile looking beautiful for years to come.

Dental Bonding

The dental bonding procedure can also be performed to address gapped teeth. During treatment, a composite resin material is applied directly to the teeth, extending their width and closing gaps. This procedure can be completed in a single office visit, in most cases.

Note that dental bonding materials do not last as long as porcelain veneers, but they offer a more affordable initial investment. Some patients opt for composites prior to making the transition to porcelain veneers.

Invisalign® Clear, Removable Braces

Dr. Stemple is a general dentist that is specially trained with Invisalign® and she offers this innovative, fast treatment for teens and adults who want to realign their teeth for a more attractive smile. Invisalign® treatment involves the fabrication of a complete custom set of clear acrylic aligners that fit over top or bottom teeth. Each of the aligners in the treatment plan shifts teeth closer and closer to the predetermined, ideal position.

Patients must wear their aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day to stay on track with short-term treatment, which generally takes 12 to 18 months. Invisalign® aligners are not only clear and inconspicuous, but they can be taken out of the mouth when the patient is attending a special event, speaking in public, eating a meal, or cleaning the teeth.
